Update: February 2008

Improving Repeat Prescribing

We would like to let you know about some changes we are making to the way you order your regular medicines which may reduce the number of times you need to contact the Practice and so make the process easier for you.

If the surgery provide your medicines
When you come to collect your repeat medicines at the surgery we would like you to mark the medicines you will need for the following month on the right hand side of your prescription and leave it with us. We will then ensure your medicines are ready to collect the following month at the correct time with no need for any more contact by yourselves.

If the chemist provide your medicines
If the pharmacist has been involved with helping you order and collect your repeat prescriptions, or you would like them to do so, please talk to your pharmacist about how they can assist you with this.

If you collect your own prescriptions from the surgery, please mark the medicines you will need for the following month on the right hand side of the prescription and leave it with us. We can then make sure your prescription is ready for collection the following month.

We hope the above will reduce the number of times you need to contact the surgery. In order for this system to work efficiently we shall no longer be taking repeat prescription orders over the phone. This will also eliminate the possibility of mistakes being made while taking instructions over the phone and is in line with currently accepted good practice. We also hope this will make it easier to get through on the phone for routine contacts or for urgent enquiries.

If you have severe difficulties with the above or any questions please contact Mrs R Gittoes, Practice Manager.

On-line Appointment Booking and Repeat Prescription Requests

If you have access to the Internet, you can now make a routine appointment with a doctor and order repeat prescriptions via EMIS Access – the secure, on-line service. You will require a registration letter from the surgery which gives you an Access ID and PIN number. If you would like to use this service, please give your name to a Receptionist at either Hay or Talgarth Medical Centre and a registration letter will be sent to you. Please note, appointments can also be cancelled via EMIS Access. This service is available to adult patients only.

New Clinical Staff
We are pleased to welcome to the Practice GP Registrar, Dr Veronika Kern. Dr Kern joined us on 1 August 2007 and will be working with us for the next 12 months.

Sri Lanka Rebuild Fund Update

It is now over 3 years since the Tsunami hit Sri Lanka causing so much devastation and we are pleased to report that, thanks to all the local funding raising efforts, 5 schools are now well established :-

Beacon of Hope Bronllys
Beacon of Hope Haygarth
Beacon of Hope Llangorse
Beacon of Hope Y Fenni

Beacon of Hope Brecon

The Sri Lanka Rebuild Fund is supporting the running of the 5 schools by paying the teacher’s salaries plus providing learning materials etc.

Acceptable Behaviour
Sadly there has been an increased level of rudeness and verbal abuse towards our staff recently. In order to protect our staff and to provide a safer environment for patients and staff we will be asking anyone who causes such aggression to discuss their behaviour with the practice.
